Bids accepted for MHS Building Trades home
Mattoon school district has reopened the bidding process for the home the building trades is constructing because two of the bids received were identical.
The new reserve bid is now $133,000 which is the same amount of the identical bids. A third bid of $130,600 was also submitted during the original bid opening date Feb. 7. Tom Sherman, assistant superintendent of business, said he wasn't sure if the district had ever received identical bids. All three bidders were present at the bid opening.
By rebidding the home, anyone is eligible to bid. Those interested in bidding must submit a sealed bid, with a bid that meets or exceeds the reserve bid of $133,000. The bid must be submitted in person or mailed to the Administrative Service Center by 10 a.m. Feb. 28. The ASC office is located at 1701 Charleston Ave. Mattoon, Illinois 61938.
Bids will be opened at 10 a.m., Feb. 28. The board added a stipulation that when the bids are opened, if there is a tie, then the bidding will immediately turn into an auction for the property with the starting auction bid being the highest submitted sealed bid.
Sherman will make a recommendation to the school board to accept the highest bid at the March 12 school board meeting.
The home's reserve bid was previously set at $125,000. The three-bedroom home is located at 1219 S. 16th Street. MHS Building Trades teacher Troy Haacke and the students will give tours of the home for anyone interested. More pictures of the home are available on the district's Facebook page.
