First-graders and their teachers at Arland D. Williams Jr. Elementary School encouraged their friends and families to collect socks for their Socktober event which began Oct. 1 and ended Oct. 31. They collected 1,251 pairs of socks. The socks are donated to One Stop Community Christmas, The Haven and donated to schools throughout the Mattoon school district.

Arland D. Williams Jr. Elementary School physical education classes had our culminating activity to our Socktober fundraiser event. The PE dept hosted a sock hop where the students learned about what a sock hop really was and did dances throughout the decades! A huge shout out to Brooke Kinnaman and the entire first grade team for making Socktober a huge success! More pictures to come.  Thanks Angie Haacke and Brooke Kinnaman for sharing the photos and information.

Brian Perdomo, a second-grader at Arland D. Williams Jr. Elementary School, collected 109 pairs of socks in celebration of Socktober. Brooke Kinnaman, first grade teacher and organizer of the Socktober event at Williams, shared this photo and gave Perdomo a shout out for his efforts!
