Mattoon CUSD #2 will host The Greenwave Kickoff and Rededication of Gaines Field taking place before their first home football game on September 1st at Mattoon High School.
From 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. MHS will be serving hot dogs and corn on the cob (supporting the mascot “Greenwave” fields of corn) at no cost to the community (first come, first serve). Additionally, they plan on having Nashville country duo “Lazy Jane” perform an acoustic set from 5:00 - 6:15 p.m.
101.3 WMCI will be live on location promoting the event and chatting with school officials and even a couple football players before the game. There will also be yard games and student clubs present.
At 6:45 p.m., MHS will rededicate the field to the Harry Gaines family and a WWII 1949 North American T-6G Texan airplane will fly over the field: A fitting tribute to Harry Gaines as a WWII veteran! The football game will kickoff at 7:00 p.m vs. Olney.
