Skills USA  Laura Roberts and 2 Students Competing in SkillsUSA

This past weekend, April 28 - 30, 2022, MHS students competed at the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference (SLSC) at the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria, IL.  The conference started Thursday night with the opening ceremonies, Friday the students competed, and Saturday morning was the awards ceremony.  

MHS SkillsUSA advisor – Laura Roberts accompanied two high school students to the conference. Hannah White competed in Creative Photography Display and Tshirt Design. Shayla Carter competed in Creative Photography.  "This is a great opportunity for students to demonstrate what they have learned in school in hands-on competitions." says Roberts.  "I am so proud of my students for competing!"  Here is a link to the State Leadership & Skills Conference 2022 Recap Video.

Friday night, after the competitions all SkillsUSA members were invited to attend the Peoria Chiefs High-A Affiliate baseball game.  During the game, the last three years 'Advisors of the Year' were honored due to COV-ID restrictions. Laura Roberts received her recognition as the 2020 SkillUSA State Advisor of the year.  This accomplishment also came with a personalized Period Chief's Jersey and the ability to throw out the first pitch of the game.

The SkillsUSA Illinois State Leadership & Skills Conference 2022 was the state's largest showcase of career and technical education. The need for a highly skilled workforce has never been greater or more clear. These members have proven they are prepared for a successful future. Congratulations to all champions!
