The MHS Corps of Cadets is hosting the 88th Annual Military Ball tomorrow (3/5). Members of the community, 50 years or older, are invited to enjoy snacks, music, dancing, and the company of the Corps of Cadets. As this is a formal event, gentlemen are expected to wear a suit and tie, and ladies a military uniform or a formal floor-length gown.

English I Students at MHS recently participated in symbolism sculptures upon completion of their Book Club Unit. Students were tasked with using play-doh to create a sculpture depicting a symbol from their novel. Students had to provide an explanation of their symbol and how it connects to their self-selected novel.





We have an exciting update for MHS Future's Day on Wednesday (3/1)! We will have an Air EVAC helicopter coming for students interested in becoming a First Responder.
There will be nearly 80 different options for students to explore during the day including college, trade, and career paths.
Shout out to the planning team for Futures Day - a mix of staff and freshman-senior students. Students work to analyze data to help make joint decisions and create and distribute digital and print content surrounding the event. Student & member, Maisy helped to create this graphic.

Today (Tuesday, 2/22), MHS students will be able to try out a fresh salad at lunch, locally sourced from the school's Ag Department! Students have been working on this romaine tower and are excited for their first opportunity to utilize it.

Congrats to the MHS Greenwave wrestling team! Of the 10 wrestlers that went to the IHSA Class 2A Sectionals, half advanced to IHSA state in Champaign next weekend!

+Career Fair that provides students 16+ to network with local businesses for prospective job opportunities
+Sessions tailored to immediate entry into the workforce post-high school (resume building, headshots, interview skills, mock interviews with feedback) with regional recruitment managers

MHS also hosted the 7th annual Mattoon Fresh-Soph Invitational tournament on Saturday, January 21st. Our A team tied for 5th place in the 12-team field with a record of 3-4. Freshman Lincoln Wheeler averaged 46 points per game and was named to the All-Tournament Second Team.
Scholastic Bowl Coach, Brendan Aydt stated, "We are really young this year; Kendall Holtzhouser is our senior anchor, and we have a large group of freshmen who were very successful at the 8th-grade level last year, so I am really excited about seeing them grow at the varsity level."

The Lady Wave basketball team took a trip to watch the Fighting Illini women's teams as they faced Indiana on January 18th. Many of the Illini men's basketball players were also in attendance, including Coleman Hawkins and Terrence Shannon who were nice enough to take a picture with our team!


The JROTC drill meet at West Aurora HS for this weekend has been cancelled due to expected weather conditions around the Chicago area.


Due to weather, Mattoon CUSD #2 is announcing the following cancellations for January 25, 2023:
The SAT Prep Class at MHS scheduled for Wednesday, January 25th has been canceled. The class will resume on February 1st.
All MHS extracurricular activities and practices scheduled for Wednesday, January 25th have been canceled.
All MMS practice/open gyms are canceled for Wednesday, January 25th. The building is closed. Please focus on e-Learning tasks and be safe. All MMS events for Thursday, January 26th will continue as scheduled at this time.
