Mattoon High School hosted its first annual Academic Spotlight night on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. This event was partnered with Food for Thought, a subcommittee of MHS students and staff passionate about increasing family engagement at MHS. 🥧💭 Families were able to engage in the many academic opportunities identified by students as outstanding, influential, or memorable. Featured were internship opportunities, Personalized Pace Math, American Sign Language activities, Computer Maintenance coding drones, Physics creating catapults, and rocket creation. 🚀💻 In addition, MHS senior Jo A. cooked food for all guests as her capstone project for her Culinary Arts pathway at LIFT, and Noah N. filmed and edited the footage for his capstone project for the Broadcasting pathway at LIFT. Families could also play board games with the Game Club during the evening. These students were incredible leaders throughout the entire event. 👩‍🍳 📽 We are so proud of all of our student leaders who are passionate about spotlighting the amazing opportunities MHS students have each day, serving our community, and engaging families. 🤝

On Saturday, November 18th, multiple Mattoon students from the middle school and high school participated in the ILMEA District 5 Honors Festival at EIU. It was a great day of music with students from all over Central Illinois. We are so proud of our students! 🎼🎤

The Winter Wavette Dance Camp will be held for grades K-5 on Saturday, December 2nd from 1:00-2:15 p.m. This camp will enable your child to become a part of the tradition that is Mattoon Dance. November 15, 2023 marks School Board Members Day in Illinois. We are thankful to our board members for their commitment to education. Our board members spend multiple hours each month on district work, attending meetings, and other responsibilities most will never hear or read about. We want to thank all six members of the Mattoon CUSD #2 Board Education for their service to the district and our students.📚✨

Exciting news! 🎶 Thirteen Mattoon High School Band students and 3 MHS Choir students were selected to participate in the ILMEA District 5 Festivals taking place on November 4th (Jazz) and November 18th (Band, Choir, and Orchestra) at Eastern Illinois University. These students were selected based on an arduous audition process. They all worked hard and we are proud of them for this high accomplishment! 🌟 Justin Hunt (band) and Zach Smith (choir) are the MHS Directors. 🎼

After working with the phone company, the issue has been resolved, and all phone lines throughout the district are working properly.
