These leaders bring passion, experience, and a shared commitment to supporting our students and staff.
📣 Chad Arnold – Assistant Superintendent of MCUSD2! 🎓💼
Chad’s educational journey began with an Associate’s Degree in Elementary Education from Lake Land College in 1997. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Eastern Illinois University in 2002, followed by a Master’s in Educational Leadership in 2006 and an Educational Specialist degree in 2022.
Chad has been a dedicated member of the Mattoon school community for many years. He began his career with the district in 2002 as a teacher at Mattoon Middle School, where he taught science, social science, and ELA. Over the years, he’s held a variety of leadership roles, including Assistant Principal at MMS, Assistant Principal at WES, Principal at Riddle Elementary, and most recently, Principal at Mattoon Middle School.
For Chad, education isn't just a passion, but a calling. Whether in the classroom, on the sidelines, or in the front office, he has found purpose in supporting students, empowering educators, and fostering a culture of collaboration and growth. He’s especially passionate about developing systems that allow teachers to do their best work and students to thrive.
Outside of school, Chad enjoys spending time with his family and showing support for students at events beyond the classroom.
📣 Tera Stewart – Principal at Mattoon Middle School! 🐾📚
Tera has been a dedicated educator within the Mattoon CUSD #2 family since 2004, beginning her career at Riddle Elementary, where she taught both kindergarten and 5th grade. Her journey continued at Williams Elementary as a Title I reading teacher and instructional coach, followed by two years at Mattoon High School as an Academic Instructional Coach. In 2023, she joined MMS as Assistant Principal, and now steps into her new leadership role with energy, experience, and a clear vision.
Tera holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Western Illinois University, a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Arizona State University, and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Eastern Illinois University. She’s currently pursuing her Specialist Degree in Education at EIU, demonstrating her commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth.
Outside of school, Tera loves cooking and spending time with her family and friends.
📣 Claire Vogel – Assistant Principal at Mattoon Middle School 🚀
Claire brings a strong background in education, with a Bachelor of Science in Middle Level Education (2016) and a Master’s in Educational Leadership (2019) from Eastern Illinois University.
She has served in many roles at MMS, including teaching 6th Grade ELA, 6th & 7th Grade Science, serving as an Instructional Coach, and coaching Cheer, Track, and Golf.
Claire lives in Effingham with her husband, Jason, and their two daughters, Caroline and Charlotte. When she’s not at school, she loves spending time with family and friends, traveling, and camping.
She’s passionate about building strong relationships, supporting student growth, and fostering a positive school culture.
📣 Chris Young – Dean of Students at Mattoon Middle School 🐾
Chris is no stranger to MMS. He’s been an integral part of our team since 2019 as the STEAM teacher, and has held many leadership roles including Team Leader of the Essentials Team, NJHS Sponsor, MEA Vice President, MMS Culture Team Facilitator, and more. He also currently serves as our Lighthouse Coordinator, helping lead the charge in school culture and student leadership.
Chris earned his Bachelor’s in Elementary Education with a Middle School Concentration in Math (2007) and his Master’s in Educational Leadership (2013) from Eastern Illinois University. He’s also earned his Master’s plus 16.
Chris has also served as a math teacher and instructional coach in previous districts, bringing a strong background in both instruction and leadership.
Outside of school, Chris enjoys playing golf, yard work, relaxing in the pool with his family, and building things.
📣 Stacy Keyser – Assistant Principal at Mattoon High School! 💚🎓
Stacy brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for education to MHS. Her career began in the classroom, where she taught choral and general music in multiple school districts from 1998 to 2014. In 2014, she stepped into school leadership, serving as Middle School Principal and Athletic Director in Cumberland Unit #77 for over a decade before joining the Greenwave family.
Stacy holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal/General Music from DePauw University, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Greenville University, and both a Type 75 Endorsement and Educational Specialist Degree from Eastern Illinois University.
Outside of school, Stacy stays busy with her family. She and her husband have four sons, ages 16 to 23. She enjoys watching sports, swimming, spending time outdoors, reading, listening to live music, and making memories with friends and family.
📣 Todd Butler – Interim Director of LIFT! 🚀
Todd brings over three decades of educational experience to the role, beginning his career in 1992 at Carlyle High School. He later served at Cumberland High School as a teacher and coach before stepping into leadership roles, including Principal and most recently, Superintendent of Cumberland CUSD #77, where he served until June 2025.
Todd earned his Bachelor of Arts (1992), Master’s in Educational Administration (2004), and Educational Specialist Degree (2014) from Eastern Illinois University.
A passionate advocate for Career and Technical Education (CTE), Todd believes strongly in the role CTE plays in preparing students for real-world success through hands-on learning and career readiness.
