MMS Nominee for the 2023 IESA Scholar Attitude Award

Congratulations to Braylon Uppencamp, 8th grader at Mattoon Middle School for being the MMS nominee for the 2023 IESA Scholar Attitude Award!  Staff nominations were taken to obtain a pool of potential candidates, and Braylon was nominated more than any other student!  To be considered, a student from an IESA member school must be of 8th grade status, have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, have participated in at least one IESA activity during each year of their two-year junior high career, and has demonstrated outstanding citizenship during their junior high tenure. Braylon will be submitting his application to IESA, which will include an essay titled "The Value of Sportsmanship and the Lessons I have Learned from Participating in Athletics and Activities".  Five award winners are chosen from five IESA divisions, and those winners are recognized at the IESA State Track Meet in East Peoria in May.

The  IESA stated, "The IESA Scholar Attitude Award honors those students who have maintained a high-academic standard while pursuing participation in their school community through IESA activities. We would like to congratulate the selected students on their focus, passion, and pursuit. We look forward to the leadership they will provide in the future and we are pleased to be a part of their journey."
