Mattoon Middle School eighth grade art students presented Executive Director Chris Davis of The Haven a donation of $170 Jan. 10 as part of a public art project they created in December. The collaborative artwork asked community members to sponsor advisory classes who agreed to adopt a Kindness Tree and engage in 25 random acts of kindness. McLain Schaefer, principal, Arland D. Williams Jr. Elementary School, presents a check in the amount of $435.14 to Kim Henness on behalf of One Stop Community Christmas. The funds were earned for One Stop Community Christmas through the Dollar Days program that WES sponsored during the month of December. The students raised $217.57. WES PTO matched that amount and the combined donation was presented Jan. 14, 2019 to Henness.
Anyone starting a ninth decade attending Mattoon High School basketball games rates an autographed basketball, and the Green Wave delivered one to Ken Wooddell at Tuesday night's game against Mahomet-Seymour. Wooddell began broadcasting Wave games on the radio in 1949 after moving to Mattoon. He spent 40 years broadcasting games and the past 30 attending as a spectator.
