Mattoon High School is excited to extend a warm invitation to all incoming 9th graders and their families for the 34th Annual Freshman Orientation, a pivotal event that will kickstart their high school journey. This informative orientation program will take place at MHS on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, with doors opening at 5:15 PM.

The orientation will take place in the main gymnasium at 5:30 PM with a warm welcome and a brief address. This marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Class of 2028, and the entire family is encouraged to attend.

Families and students will be divided into three groups, each offering a unique perspective on what MHS has to offer. Current students will serve as guides and facilitators for these groups, ensuring a smooth transition and an informative evening. Here's what you can expect to explore :

1. Academic Information (Main Gym): This session will provide valuable insights into academic programs and expectations at MHS.

2. Career & Technical Education Tour: Explore the diverse courses available at MHS, including Agriculture Food Science, Floral Design and Greenhouse, Veterinary Sciences, Welding, Child Development, Building Trades, and Visual Design.

3. Music Mentoring & Band (Library): Discover the vibrant world of music programs and mentorship opportunities at MHS.

4. Extracurricular Activities (Cafeteria): Learn about the clubs, organizations, and sports that students can participate in. Additionally, all attendees will receive a free Class of 2028 t-shirt as a token of their welcome.

Furthermore, a dedicated team of faculty, guidance counselors, administrators, coaches, sponsors, and the school nurse will be present to answer any questions and provide assistance.

The MHS family is looking forward to formally welcoming the Class of 2028 and ensuring that their transition to high school is both seamless and enriching.
