Mattoon Rotary recognizes one Senior male and female at their monthly luncheon as Students of the Month.
Students are nominated by MHS staff and the selection criteria includes outstanding academic achievement and citizenship. Rotary Student of the Month for December winners are Sarah Creel and John Sullivan.
Sarah Creel is involved in NHS, and the MHS reading group called Reading Rangers. Her guardian is Peggy Vernelson of Mattoon. Sarah is also on High Honor Roll. After graduation she plans to attend the dental hygiene program at Lake Land College.
John Sullivan is the son of Laura and Ryan Sullivan. He was co-captain of the MHS football team and has volunteered his time at Douglas-Hart. John’s future plans are to become a professional pilot after graduating from Lewis University, in Romeoville.
