Mattoon Middle School welcomed the community to a Gym Opening Celebration during the Wildcats/St. John’s girl’s basketball game on Thursday, October 9, 2025. This celebration was to commemorate the refinishing of the school’s Wildcat Gymnasium which took place over the summer. In addition to the 7th and 8th grade games, the evening featured recognition of fall sports athletes including softball, baseball, cross country, cheer, and girls basketball. 8th grade parents and athletes in cross country and golf were also recognized, and the fans were able to enjoy performances by the band and Purrfections.
MMS Principal, Tera Stewart, shared how these gym updates will make a difference not just to the middle school athletes, but to all students. “These improvements create a space where all students can feel proud, supported, and motivated - whether they're competing on the court, participating in PE, or engaging in activities that use the gym as an extended classroom.”
The Mattoon Edward Jones offices of Aaron Ifft and The Fears Wealth Management Team support Mattoon Middle School by sponsoring Edward Jones Court at MMS. "We are committed to supporting not only our clients but the entire community," Ifft said "This type of sponsorship is one way we can help make a difference." As part of a 4-year naming rights partnership, Edward Jones will support Mattoon Middle School Athletics with an annual contribution. Ifft and Fears were both recognized for their contributions and support during the Gym Opening Celebration.
The middle school gymnasium is a versatile space, serving as an educational classroom, athletic venue, gathering space for assemblies, and host for a wide range of events, including school orientations, open houses, and extracurricular activities. This partnership not only enhances the functionality of this vital space, but also reflects the middle school’s commitment to providing enriching opportunities for their students, families, and community.
As Superintendent Condron emphasizes, “We are incredibly grateful for this partnership, which will not only support the growth and development of our students, but also strengthen the bond between our school and the community. This collaboration ensures that Edward Jones Court at MMS remains a dynamic and accessible space for all to enjoy and utilize for years to come.”
