Celebrating Success on the 2025 School Report Card
For the second consecutive year, all Mattoon CUSD #2 schools earned a Commendable Rating from the Illinois State Board of Education, thanks to aligned improvement efforts from the district, building, department, teacher, and student levels.
The 2025 Illinois Report Card - available at mcusd2.org/ILreportcard - is a snapshot of school performance data from the 2024-25 school year. The state’s rating for all schools is based on multiple metrics, including academic growth, proficiency, attendance, and graduation rate, for which schools earn a number of points.
In grades 3-8, the largest component for school designation is student growth, accounting for 50% of the overall score. According to the Illinois State Board of Education, the weight of this metric is because “Growth is responsive to changes in classroom structures and practices.” As reflected in the 2025 Illinois Report Card, growth as a district either met or exceeded the state in Math on the IAR.
Not only did Mattoon CUSD #2 see continued growth in academics, but they also noted an impressive ‘9th Grade on Track’ score - exceeding the state average and boasting their second highest score in eight years. This outcome should directly result in an overall increase in their graduation rates, as evidenced by this year's Illinois Report Card, which shows growth of nearly 10% from last year's score.

Happy Halloween from Our Schools to You!
From Trunk-or-Treats to Haunted Houses, thanks for celebrating October with us in all the best ways! Check out pictures from our some of our events below.

Trunk-or-Treat at Williams
Williams Elementary School families gathered outdoors on Thursday, October 23 for a night full of fall fun at the annual Trunk-or-Treat event. The back parking lot came alive with decorated trunks and creative costumes. Guests enjoyed hot dogs, candy, and books while visiting each festive table. The event brought together students, families, and staff for a safe, fun-filled evening.

LIFT Tower of Terror
This month, LIFT students and staff put their creativity to work transforming part of the building into one of Mattoon’s most anticipated Halloween attractions, the annual LIFT Tower of Terror Haunted House. Coordinated by Mr. Dan Compton and a dedicated team of LIFT students and staff, the project has become a favorite Mattoon Trunk or Treat tradition, drawing families from across the region.
More than a Halloween event, the Haunted House reflects what happens at LIFT every day. Students from over 20 school districts come together to collaborate, create, and lead. Whether designing, building, organizing, or managing logistics, students from every career pathway have a chance to contribute in their own way. This project, allows them to apply their skills in meaningful, community-centered ways.
