Mattoon Rotary recognizes one senior male and female each month at their luncheon as Students of the Month. Students are nominated by MHS staff based on outstanding academic achievement and citizenship.
For November, the honorees are Ethan Ames and Layla Ballard.
Ethan, son of Ben and Connie Dubson, is heavily involved in the MHS Welding program. During his time at MHS, he has also been a member of the Wrestling Team. After graduation, Ethan plans to pursue a career at EvapCo or Bruder Tank.
Layla, daughter of Richard and Jasmine Ballard, is involved in numerous activities and organizations at MHS. She is a Wavette, a member of the Track Team, MHS Band, and National Honor Society. Layla also participates in Greenwave Singers, Art Club, and Leadership Club. In the fall, she plans to study Meteorology and continue performing in Marching Band, with Oklahoma University as a potential choice.
