Mattoon Rotary recognizes one senior male and female each month at their luncheon as Students of the Month. Students are nominated by MHS staff based on outstanding academic achievement and citizenship.
For December, the honorees are Sofia Cairns and Jackson Chronic.
Sofia, whose guardians are Jim and Linda Rix, is involved with the MHS Yearbook. After high school, Sofia plans to attend Lakeland and pursue a career in the dental field, either as a dental hygienist or a dental assistant.
Jackson, son of Joshua and Katie Vaultonburg, is highly involved in JROTC, where he currently serves as a Staff Officer. He has participated on the Raiders, Archery, and Drill teams and is also a member of FFA. Jackson plans to attend the University of Illinois and enter the Army ROTC program to commission as a military officer, or enlist in the U.S. Air Force on active duty.
MHS is proud to celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of Sofia and Jackson. Congratulations to both on this well-deserved recognition!
