Mattoon Rotary recognizes one senior male and female each month at their luncheon as Students of the Month. Students are nominated by MHS staff based on outstanding academic achievement and citizenship.
For January, the honorees are Star Merkle and Jonah Stamps.
Star, daughter of Dan and Stephanie Merkle, has been a member of ROTC and Archery throughout her high school career. After graduation, Star plans to attend Lakeland and pursue a career in Cosmetology.
Jonah, son of Ian and Jodie Stamps, is actively involved in serving others through his volunteer work at the after-school middle school program at Broadway Christian Church. He also serves as a summer camp counselor at Little Galilee Christian Camp. Jonah plans to attend Boyce College, a four-year Bible college in Louisville, Kentucky, where he will pursue a degree in Theological Studies.
