Mattoon’s middle and high school dance teams turned in an impressive performance at the 47th IDTA/IHSA Dance State Series hosted by the Illinois Drill Team Association and the Illinois High School Association.
The MHS Wavettes claimed the AA Pom state championship and placed 10th in AA Jazz. Ellie Miller finished among the state’s top 50 soloists. Molly Stuart and Brooklynn Redfern earned Rising Star honors. The team also received the Scholar Athlete Award for maintaining a 5.0 weighted GPA. Redfern was awarded a $750 IDTA scholarship for her video essay.
The MMS Purrfections placed second overall in Pom, with Harper Krost and Kylie Compton earning Rising Star recognition.
Both teams thanked the FFA Ag Café for gift bags and Subway for providing lunch as they traveled to the competition.
