Mattoon Rotary recognizes one senior male and female each month at their luncheon as Students of the Month. Students are nominated by MHS staff based on outstanding academic achievement and citizenship.
For February, the honorees are Elliott Burrell and Zoie Winnett.
Elliott, son of Bryan and Krista Burrell, is a member of the National Honor Society and has participated in football, wrestling, and track and field during his time at MHS. He plans to attend Lake Land College on the Presidential Scholarship to pursue nursing. After completing his studies there, he intends to transfer to SIUE to continue his education in a Nurse Practitioner program.
Zoie, daughter of Evan and Tabitha Himes, has been actively involved in numerous activities throughout high school. This year, she participates in Health Occupations, Lighthouse Team, and Wave Leadership. In previous years, she has been involved in Art Club, Yearbook Club, Softball, Archery, JROTC, and Colorguard, and she served as Archery Team Commander during her junior year. Zoie plans to take her Certified Nursing Assistant state exam in March and attend Lake Land College to pursue a nursing degree. She hopes to later transfer to Eastern Illinois University to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She also has an interest in pursuing a career in welding as an alternative pathway.
MHS is proud to celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of Elliott and Zoie. Congratulations to both on this well-deserved recognition!
