Lake Land College hosted its first-ever welding competition for area high school students on Thursday, March 26. Six Mattoon High School students were able to participate in the event, competing against other local high school students in the LLC welding lab, showcasing their skills and putting their proficiency to the test by completing multi-position welds. Fifty-six students were represented at the competition in total.
Following the welding period, each contestant’s work was graded by a judging panel of professional welders.
Congratulations to Londen Miller who placed 1st in the 11th grade division and took home a variety of prizes, including professional welding gear.
MHS participants included: Kaleb Smith, Jaden Anderson, Londen Miller, Zoie Winnett, Ethan Ames, and Copper Bullock.
