Mattoon Rotary recognizes one senior male and female each month at their luncheon as Students of the Month. Students are nominated by MHS staff based on outstanding academic achievement and citizenship.
For March, the honorees are James Connett and Jorun Haldorsen.
James, whose guardians are John and Vivian Connett, has been actively involved in MHS Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Scholastic Bowl, National Honor Society, and LIFT Communications. His future plans are to attend Eastern Illinois University, where he will major in Instrumental Music Education.
Jorun, daughter of Kurt and Marsha Haldorsen, has been actively involved in numerous activities throughout high school. She serves as Class of 2026 Treasurer and is a member of Student Council, BIONIC, and the National Honor Society. Jorun also competes on the Varsity Golf, Basketball, and Soccer teams at MHS. Her future plans include earning an associate degree in Bio-Science at Lake Land College and then transferring to a university to further her education.
