Mattoon CUSD #2 officially kicked off preparations for the 2026–27 academic year on Monday, August 10, hosting the Annual Back-to-School Staff Breakfast to bring district educators and support teams back together.
The morning opened with musical performances from the Mattoon High School Band alongside selected Chorus students, who teamed up to perform the National Anthem.
Educator and author Jonathon Alsheimer served as this year's keynote speaker. Known for his books Next Level Teaching and School of Engagement, Alsheimer spoke to the staff about building classroom momentum and creating dynamic learning environments.
The morning also included a special tribute to upcoming retirees as administrators celebrated their years of hard work and commitment to the district.
