Kindness Cafe Donating Money Raised to the MFD

The Kindess Cafe has been busy again! The last two months they continued Dollar Drop Days at Riddle to raise money for two more organizations.

Salvation Army -- Riddle Elementary students participated in Dollar Drop days for the months of April and May. In April, students had the opportunity to wear mismatched clothes and donate their $1.00 to the Salvation Army. A total of $91 was collected. Mindy Willenborg, youth development coordinator at the Salvation Army accepted the donation from the Kindness Cafe. She gave the Kindness Cafe students the option to decide where the money would go, the youth program or the food pantry. The students chose to split the money and give half to the youth program and half to the food pantry.

Mattoon Fire Department -- Early in May, Riddle students had their last Dollar Drop day. On this day, students could bring in a small stuffed animal for $1.00. The total money raised was $255.80 which was donated to the MFD. Bart Owen and Hallam Shutts came to school to meet the Kindness Cafe members and accept the donation. They stated that the money would be used in the Mattoon Firefighters Charitable Program. Through this program, money is used to help kids and families within the community.

We are so proud of the Kindness Cafe for putting numerous fundraisers together this year, and thankful to all the students and staff who donated to the causes! Way to go Riddle Elementary!
