Mattoon CUSD #2 Announces Mike Shaffer as the new Arland D. Williams Jr. Elementary school Principal.
Shaffer started his career in the Mattoon district as a Mathematics Teacher at MHS from 1993-2008. From there, he transitioned to Assistant Principal at MHS from 2008-2022.
Throughout his career Shaffer has been a 9th Grade Team Leader, coached several sports teams, including MHS Track & Field, MHS 9th Grade Boy's Basketball, MMS 7th Grade Boy's Basektball, and was an assistant coach for the MHS Soccer team.
When asked what he's looking forward to Shaffer stated, "I am very excited for the privilege to serve the Mattoon community as principal of Arland D.Williams Jr. Elementary. I am greatly looking forward to building relationships with staff, parents, guardians, and the larger community to support our students in their academic and social growth, on their way to becoming our future leaders. I am humbled by this opportunity and confident of the growth ahead."
