The Nancy Conlon Kindness for Kids Fund was created to assist students at Mattoon Community Unit School District 2. Nancy, a long-time, beloved teacher in the district, passed away in October 2016. Her smile and upbeat personality were an inspiration to those who knew and loved her. Nancy had an enthusiasm for teaching and a penchant for inspiring student learning through her creativity.  She was a sensitive and generous human being who placed her students’ needs at the forefront.  Without fanfare or notoriety, Nancy would purchase items for students such as new clothing, shoes, or school supplies.

The Conlon family continues to share Nancy’s legacy with The Nancy Conlon Kindness for Kids Fund. Her husband Steve humbly remarked that he knows what Nancy did as a teacher wasn’t unique and that many teachers quietly help students with their own funds. The Nancy Conlon Kindness for Kids Fund is not only a memorial to Nancy but a tribute to all those teachers, administrators, and school personnel who have generously helped students to succeed. School personnel will be able to apply for grants that will directly help Mattoon students.

Although the memorial fund will never replace Nancy, her zest for life and her unwavering dedication to helping students achieve, it will continue her work to support an array of student needs. Those who personally knew Nancy and those who were inspired by stories of Nancy, have made this fund possible through their generous donations. The Conlon family appreciates all donations and their hope is to continue this perpetual fund that will help generations of Mattoon students.
