This summer Kendra Jones (District ESL Coordinator) and Jamilet Ruiz (MHS Freshman) went to Puerto Rico together to do volunteer work and teach students English.
Aside from teaching, they cleaned multiple apartments for a nonprofit that puts roofs on houses, worked at a food bank, packed food for kids, and helped at 3 autism events in San Juan.
Jones stated about the trip, "The natural beauty was amazing there and the people were friendly and happy to have help!"
We are proud of their willingness to volunteer and glad to have them as part of the Mattoon CUSD2 family.
