Mattoon High School is happy to announce we will be offering a SAT preparation class for interested Juniors and Seniors. This class will provide direct instruction and test taking skills to prepare students for the 2022 SAT.
The class will be offered six Wednesday evenings from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM starting February 2, 2022 with the final class being March 9, 2022. The two-hour preparation class will have one hour devoted to math instruction with specific lessons on calculator use and one hour devoted to reading instruction. The course will be taught by Mattoon High School math and English teachers.
Students who participate in the SAT preparation class will each receive the SAT Prep Plus 22 practice booklet with sample problems to work through and practice tests. Participants will take a pretest to guide the instructional needs of each student through the six-week course.

Mattoon High School's Power Hour will resume Monday, January 10, 2022. Power Hour is from 3:15-4:15 Monday through Thursday. Power Hour is an extended program that provides students with homework and tutorial help. Interested students can email terastewart@mcusd2.com to sign-up.
2022 Freshmen Orientation tonight (January 5th) from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM at Mattoon High School.
Douglas-Hart Nature Center is offering free classes for our students! The first session will be Basic First Aid, on January 18th, from 5-7. These will continue every third Tuesday of the month until May. This is a free opportunity with dinner provided. MHS Wall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled for January 7, 2022. Inductees from the 2019 & 2020 school years will be honored on this night between the JV and Varsity Boys Basketball games at approximately 7:15 pm.

The ASL I and II students learned, practiced, and performed Christmas carols. On Thursday evening, December 16th, several attended the EIASE deaf and hard of hearing annual Christmas program to perform. And, on Friday, December 17th, each class performed for staff in the building.

The last day for Mattoon High School's first semester Power Hour is Thursday, December 16, 2021.
MHS Power Hour will resume Monday, January 10, 2022. Students interested in attending Power Hour second semester can enroll by contacting Mrs. Stewart at terastewart@mcusd2.com.

Students across the district participated in ILMEA at Eastern Illinois Unversity on November 20. Brie Armstrong, Nate Huddleston, Kris Jacobs, and Keenan Kersh represented MHS in he Concert Band under the direction of Lieutenant Colonel Bryan Miller, conductor of the Air National Guard of the Midwest Air Force Band. In addition, Chase Armstrong and Gabriel Freeman participated in the Orchestra under the direction of Lara Plummer from Alton High School.
MCUSD2 was well represented by outstanding musicians! Congratulations to all!
