
Students in Sarah Ruholl's 3rd Period Business Law class recently presented a mock trial on the case of Jack and the Beanstalk. Jack was charged with Breaking and Entering, Larceny, and, of course, murdering the giant. The student work was impressive, and this proved to be a fun, engaging learning experience for all!

Madden Johnson and Blaine Powers both qualified for the IHSA Class 2A Boys Golf State Finals with scores of 79 and 78, respectively, and the Sectional tournament at Effingham Country Club. The Green Wave finished 4th as a team with a solid score of 319, but they missed qualifying for the state finals as a team by 4 strokes. Other Mattoon scores include Stewart Druin with an 80, Will Pullen with an 81, Evan Diedrich with an 87, and Brock Taylor with an 89.

Brock Davee captured the indiviual title at the Robinson Invitational with a time of 15:49.79, and the Green Wave Cross Country team finished 2nd overall. Sam Ferrar took 8th in 17:03.72, followed by Colton Smith (29th in 18:31.67), Chase Armstrong (33rd, 18:39.92), and Cale Fogarty (47th, 19:10.13). Oaklie Layton and Hallee Perry both medaled in the girls race, finishing 21:41.85 and 22:12.29, respectively.


The MHS Boys Golf team finished 3rd at the IHSA 2A Regional tournament at Richland Golf Course in Olney, which qualified the team for the IHSA 2A Sectional tournament on October 4 at Effingham Country Club. Stewart Druin finished as the 4th place individual with a score of 81, and the Green Wave shot 339 as a team.

The Mattoon High School Chess Team is selling 2022 St. Louis Cardinals calendars for its fundraiser. These calendars cost $16 and include the complete spring training and regular season schedules, fantastic pictures of Cardinals past and present, and coupons good in the St. Louis area. MHS students spent Green and Gold Service day working with Riddle Elementary students. The RES students were excited to interact with the high school students, and lots of fun was had by all!





MHS students and staff did volunteer work at the Coles County Fairgrounds as part of Green and Gold Service Day.

MHS students and staff donated care packages to local first responders at Peterson Park as part of Green and Gold Service Day.




The Mattoon Public Library welcomed MHS student volunteers as part of Green and Gold Service Day. Activities included organizing and cleaning books and shelves as well as reading to young community members.

Franklin Pre-School welcomed MHS student volunteers as part of Green and Gold Service Day. Mr. Rabe's students did landscapping work in the courtyard, and other MHS volunteers spent time interacting with Franklin students as well as decorating the facility.
