Mattoon High School will be hosting a free vaccine clinic on August 28 in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Public Health. Please see the attached flyers for more information, and walk-ins are welcome and encouraged (no appointment is needed). We will be sharing a link to register later this week.

Just a reminder that Freshmen Orientation will be happening this Friday (August 6) from 9am to 1pm at MHS. We hope to see all incoming 9th graders for a morning of school prep, food, and fun!

Attention all incoming 9th graders! Please join us on Friday August 6 for our annual Freshmen Icebreaker. The poster attached below has more information about the activities for the day, and we hope to see you all there!

On Wednesday May 19, MHS staff delivered yard signs to the homes graduating seniors. Teachers, administrators, and support staff travelled throughout the district to visit seniors and their families to congratulate them on their accomplishments. Thanks to all those who helped celebrate the successes of our senior class!

Pictured below are seniors from the Early Childhood Education and Human Services Pathways club at MHS, which is sponsored by Sarah Powers. This group is comprised of students who want to pursue related career paths, and the club has given them some hands-on opportunities to learn more about these fields thru direct experience and service learning. Best of luck to these students as the begin their next journey!

Students from the Childcare Occupations, National Honor Society, and ROTC programs at Mattoon High School visited the Franklin Pre-School Fun Day on May 20 to celebrate the last day of school with Pre-K students. Lots of smiles were shared by all!!

Trevor Long, a student in Troy Haacke's Building Trades program, poses below with the house kit he completed as part of the course requirements. Instead of building a home from the ground up, students this year completed house kits in addition to some other projects on the MHS campus.

Students in the Building Trades program recently completed some projects to practice the skills related to the course. Instead of building a house from the ground up, students this year focused on projects to improve the MHS campus. These projects include the exterior and interior renovation of the baseball pressbox and the remodel of the bathroom in the woodshop. Thanks to Mr. Haacke and his students for all of their hard work!

Students in Chris Brown's Career Exploration class recently completed an epoxy plaque project to culminate the experience. Offered to freshmen, Career Explorations gives students the opportunity to get hands-on experience in classes that relate to fields of interest. Thanks to Mr. Brown for sharing some great examples of student-centered learning!

Wave Time classes at MHS recently competed in the 1st Annual Wave Time Olympics. Events included Door Decorating, Free Throw Shooting, Tallest Structure, Toothpick Words, Cookie Face, Moving Skittles with Chopsticks, Kahoot! Trivia, and a Canned Food Drive. Thanks to Ms. Kolden, Ms. Munyon, and all of the students and staff members who helped make this event a success! Pictured below are students from Mrs. Ruholl's Wave Time class. The Door Decorating theme was to create your own country, and her students created RuWave.

The newly created Archery team recently competed at St. John's Lutheran School in Mattoon. Composed of students from the JROTC and FFA programs, the students have enjoyed learning the basics of archery and are excited to be able to showcase their skills!
