
MHS students creatred inspirational messages to be shared with other district schools and students as part of Green and Gold Service Day :)




As part of Green and Gold Service Day, MHS Art students focused on a collaborative work. Here are the students in action, along with their instructor Janahn Kolden.


As part of Green and Gold Service Day, some MHS students painted ceiling tiles from the cafeteria. Many chose inspirational messages, famous characters, or a personal interest as the theme for their work. This is just a small sample of the incredible work done by our students.





The MHS Boys Golf team won the Unit 5 Better Ball tournament this weekend at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal with a team total of 227. Stewart Druin and Blaine Powers fired a combined even par score of 72 to finish in 3rd place overall in the event. Madden Johnson and Will Pullen shot a team total of 77, and Evan Diedrich and Borck Taylor combined to shoot a 78. The Green Wave play in the IHSA Class 2A Regional Tournament this Wednesday in Olney.

This week is Deaf Awareness Week (9/20-9/26), and Mrs. Hensley's American Sign Language (ASL) classes have been involved in a variety of activities which include presenting on famous Deaf people to educate each other (ASL 1) and creating informational posters/flyers and hanging them around the school to educate others (ASL 2). ASL 2 also participated in a class "silent day" that required them to use only ASL to play a variety of games (UNO, Scrabble, Tic-Tac -Toe, Guess Who?).

The MHS Lady Wave hosted the Apollo Conference Girls Golf tournament on Monday 9/20. Blair Powers and Berit Haldorsen achieved All-Conference honors for the Lady Wave, while Charleston won the team event with a total of 391.



The Pride of the Green Wave marching band competed this past Saturday in Monticello and placed 2nd overall in the 1A division. The drum line also won the award for Outstanding Drum line at this competition. The band is under the direction of Todd Black, with Chris Keniley as percussion director, Angi Dallas as Color Guard Director, and Haley Beals as Asst. Color Guard Instructor.


It was a great weekend for Madden Johnson and the Green Wave Boys Golf Team. On Friday, Johnson and his teammate Will Pullen placed 2nd in the scramble format at the Mt. Zion Invitational, while teammates Brock Taylor and Evan Diedrich place 2nd in the better ball format. On Saturday, Johnson secured a Top 10 finish that the Paris Invitational by shooting an 82. And on Monday, Johnson won Apollo Conference individual medalist honors by carding a 78, which helped the Green Wave win the overall team title with a score of 325. Stewart Druin and Blaine Powers also achieved All-Conference honors by shooting a 79 and 81, respectively.


This week MHS launched Power Hour, which is an after school opportunity for students to receive extra support. Power Hour runs Monday thru Thursday from 3:15 - 4:15, and snacks and transportation (if needed) are provided. This is a great opportunity for extended learning in a small group setting, so please scan the QR code if you are interested in enrolling your student.


On Thursday September 9th, the Illinois State Officer team spent the day with the Ag students at Mattoon High School. The Officer Team led team building activities and provided inspirational messages.



Brock Davee finished in 6th place and Sam Ferrar finished in 25th place at the Charleston Cross Country Invite last Saturday. The Boys and Girls Cross Country teams will run at the Peoria High Invite this weekend. Good luck!


Students from Paige Harlan's and Jessyca Haile's English classes collaborated to provide feedback for each other on their group posters. Freshmen teachers are creating opportunities to share ideas and to learn from students in other classrooms while also promoting real-world skills.
