Williams Principal Mike Shaffer handing the WAND Educator of the Month plaque to first grade teacher Brenda Bell in front of her classroom

Brenda Bell, a first-grade teacher at Arland D. Williams Elementary School, was named WAND's Educator of the Month for September, a recognition honoring outstanding educators across Central Illinois who make a difference both in and out of the classroom. Educators selected embody the spirit of leadership and service and go the extra mile to help students succeed.

Teachers are nominated by colleagues, parents, or community members who witness their impact firsthand.

Brenda’s nomination came from a parent who shared a heartfelt message about the difference she has made in students' lives. In recognition, she will receive a $500 check and a plaque commemorating her as WAND’s Educator of the Month.

“I’ve been in the district since 2016,” said Bell. “I love my students. I’m so thankful for everyone. I’m deeply honored. It’s just an honor to be nominated, let alone selected for the month.”

Williams Elementary Principal Mike Schaffer praised Bell’s dedication and character.

“She embodies all of the great characteristics of the spirit here at Arland D. Williams,” he said. “She’s patient, kind, she loves her students, and she’s a great model for her kids.”

WAND News’ Educator of the Month contest is part of its ongoing effort to celebrate the commitment and excellence of teachers across the region.
