In honor of Illinois Child Passenger Safety Week (September 20โ€“26), Mattoon CUSD #2 Birth-to-3 certified child passenger safety technicians hosted a dedicated car seat safety event on September 24 at LIFT Central Illinois.

During the event, staff conducted free car seat inspections and distributed 11 car seats free of charge to families in need. Car seats for the program are provided through a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the Illinois State Police. Last year, the program distributed 47 car seats to the community.

"We wanted to bring greater awareness to our local communities about the importance of keeping children safe while traveling in vehicles," said Katrina Farris, Director of Early Childhood. "By providing car seat safety checks and car seats to families in our area, we are not only helping protect children, but also educating parents and caregivers on the proper installation and safe use of car seats."

All Mattoon CUSD #2 Birth-to-3 staff are certified child passenger safety technicians. The team offers ongoing support, inspections, and education, providing services Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM by appointment.
