Yesterday, was the annual 4th grade, Egg Drop, at Williams. Students have been studying forces of gravity and their culminating project was to design a package that could protect an egg from breaking when dropped from the ceiling in the cafeteria. Some students tried to protect their eggs with multiple layers of padding, while others opted to make their boxes as light as possible and attached small parachutes or helium balloons to them in order to slow the speed of their crash landings. School custodian Jack Greene did a great job as the official Egg Dropper, a role that he has filled with pride for the past several years. The drops produced mixed results. Some eggs survived and others exploded into several pieces on impact. In either case, some great lessons were learned about the ability to use engineering to overcome forces of nature such as gravity #MCUSD2 #Mattoon #WilliamsElementary

Celebrating Steve Conlon as he recently received recognition for being selected to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Class of 2022! The ceremony took place on Saturday, April 30. Please help us in congratulating him! Mattoon Middle School Athletic Director Jamie Sharp has known Steve for going on 22 years. "He's the G.O.A.T. when it comes to MMS coaches," said Sharp. "Steve has never been about the scoreboard", said Sharp. "Believe me, he comes to compete and wants to win, but his focus has always been on developing the person and the athlete, helping them be a good person in whatever they do in life, and helping them perform at their best on the field or on the court. It's been great to see Steve coach over the years. This is a well-deserved recognition!", said Jamie. #MCUSD2 #Mattoon #MMS
