Mattoon CUSD #2 bus drivers will be taking part in a mock bus crash training exercise with the Mattoon Fire Department at First Class Wrecker Service in Mattoon. Training is scheduled for April 13, 14, and 15 at 9 AM.
The Fire Department will take two of our oldest buses, flip them on their side, and train drivers as if they are on an actual accident scene. They will make entry into the buses using extraction tools.
Transportation Director Chris Parr believes it will be very beneficial for the District staff and all our First Responders. “It is a great time to observe, ask questions that come up, and see what they will do when they arrive on the scene, which will help us see what we need to do on our end. Knowing what to expect from all first responders and having those conversations beforehand is huge for all departments involved. Nobody ever wants something like this to happen, but I am excited we get this opportunity to prepare ourselves if it ever does.”

Shout out to Nevaeh in Mrs. Titus's Preschool class! She was the first to complete the March Dr. Seuss reading challenge. Some of the tasks required were to read a book in the bath, in the dark, under a table, or with a friend, with a stuffed animal, wearing a hat, or read while having a snack! Some fun snaps celebrating St. Patrick's Day last week in Mrs. Koop's All Day Class at Franklin Preschool. The kids built a trap and then the leprechaun destroyed their room, but.... left them clues for a sweet treat. :)

Mrs. Titus's class at Franklin Preschool set a classroom WIG (Wildly Important Goal) to read 2,000 books. They voted on their reward for reaching that goal and decided on a PJ party. Not only did they reach their goal, but they also surpassed it by SEVERAL HUNDRED books!
Last week students got to have their PJ party and also received extra playtime and a special snack that was provided by a parent! We are so proud of these kiddos and how they are going above and beyond!
