The Mattoon High School Drama Club presents “Disco Inferno” on March 31st and April 1st at the MHS gymnasium.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for kids.
“Disco Inferno,” is a book by Justin Sepple. In the promotional material for the play, “Three words that describe this stylized musical would be Faust with Flare. With its retro setting, “Disco Inferno” oozes nostalgia and inspires smiles to hustle their way into audience members’ faces. If you love the 1970s, then you’ll love this riotous trip back to the decade that brought us flared trousers, platform shoes and glitter. MHS Varsity Cheer tryouts are Tuesday, April 19, Wednesday, April 20 and Thursday, April 21 from 8:00 pm to 9:45 pm. Students will receive their packets when they attend the first cheer clinic on Tuesday the 19th.

The Pride of the Green Wave Winter Guard will be performing their competition show "Safe and Sound" at Mattoon Middle School Wildcat Gym at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29.
The girls have been working hard and will be leaving for the MCCGA Winter Guard Championships in Springfield, MO on Friday, April 1. The guard is under the direction of Angi Dallas and Courtney St. John. Additional staff includes Haley Beals.

Friday Feel Good!
Tami Sander's Wave Time Class at MHS put together a project recently to give back to the community. They decided to do a pallet wood project since they had plenty of resources available to use at the high school. They created and designed decorations to sell, voting to give proceeds to One-Stop Community Christmas.
The class was able to present a $250 check to One-Stop! We are thankful for their hard work and thoughtfulness.

We want to give a shoutout to our very own Amanda Aydt who just found out she was named the IBCA Coach of the Year! This is Amanda's third time receiving this award - once in 2017 and again in 2020. We are so grateful to have her coaching in our district. Here's a comment from Amanda...
“I am very honored and humbled to receive this award. There are a lot of great coaches. I am truly blessed and grateful to receive this honor. This wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for a lot of people who helped me get here. I would like to thank God. He should get all the glory. I would like to thank my husband, Brendan, and my children Maria (5), Conor (3), and Luke (11 months) for all of their support, my Mom and Dad, my brother Brett, and all of my family who have always supported me throughout the years. I would also like to thank all the coaches I’ve played for and worked with over the years, and my assistant coaches Troy Haacke and Anthony Hupp for all of their help. Thanks to Mr. Vieth and all the administrators for giving me the opportunity to coach here in the Mattoon school district. I would like to thank all my players for all of their hard work and dedication. The players are the ones who came to practice ready to work hard every day. They all did their jobs and executed our game plans. So I have to give credit to the players. This is a team award.”

MHS students will get to have their first positive incentive reward for the school year on March 25th. Students have been awarded weekly points for not accumulating tardies each day, not accumulating unexcused absences, and for their GPA. Students receiving the reward will get to go to AMC Theatres during the school day and pick to watch either "The Lost City", "Spiderman-No Way Home", "The Batman", or "Uncharted". Each qualifying student was emailed a google form and permission slips. Slips are due tomorrow (Friday, March 18th).

Juniors and Seniors who have not taken the SAT will be taking the SAT School Day test on Wednesday, March 23rd. Check in starts at 8:45 am. Late arrivals will not be allowed to test per state guidelines. Students will NOT be allowed to go to their locker on test day. They must bring 2 - # 2 pencils, a photo ID , and an acceptable calculator. They are encouraged to leave their cell phone and any electronics at home that day. Students will be dismissed once testing is complete and materials are collected. If your student needs to ride the bus that day or needs a lunch, please contact the office by Friday, March 17th. Freshmen, Sophomores, and Seniors who have already taken the SAT, do not report to school on March 23.

Some "Good" work to share with the community...
MHS G.O.O.D. (Group of Optimistic Deeds) greeted students as they entered MHS yesterday morning and offered students a breakfast bar, Pop-Tarts, or a small snack to start their Friday on a positive note! Student members of G.O.O.D have organized morning greeters from different groups to continue to spread positivity and shine the spotlight on the clubs, organizations, and sports that are available to our students.
