Mattoon Rotary recognizes one Senior male and female at their monthly luncheon as Students of the Month.
Students are nominated by MHS staff and the selection criteria includes outstanding academic achievement and citizenship. October Rotary Students of the Month are Hunter Basham and Hailey Whitley.
Hunter is the son of Kim Basham and the late Clayton Basham. He is involved in both Varsity Tennis and Golf. Hunter’s future plans are to attend Lake Land College, and possibly transfer to EIU after he has obtained his Associates degree. Hunter is interested in Sports Management/Business.
Hailey is the daughter of Russ and Mandy Whitley. She is involved in Mattoon High School Concert Band, Marching Band and Pep Band. Hailey plans to pursue a degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
November 15, 2023 marks School Board Members Day in Illinois. We are thankful to our board members for their commitment to education. Our board members spend multiple hours each month on district work, attending meetings, and other responsibilities most will never hear or read about. We want to thank all six members of the Mattoon CUSD #2 Board Education for their service to the district and our students.📚✨

MMS is hosting the Annual Community Chili Supper on November 21st from 4:30-7:00 PM. Chili, hot dogs, desserts, and drinks will be provided at no cost. The Invisible Spiders, MMS Band, and MMS Choir will be performing. PTO will be hosting a basket raffle fundraiser as well.🌭🍽

Riddle Elementary School recently hosted a book fair. Customers were given the option to donate change from their purchases to help buy books for One Stop Community Christmas. Donations added up to nearly $100! We were able to buy thirty-one awesome books that will be wonderful Christmas gifts. Thirteen Mattoon High School Band students and 3 MHS Choir students were selected to participate in the ILMEA District 5 Festivals taking place on November 4th (Jazz) and November 18th (Band, Choir, and Orchestra) at Eastern Illinois University. These students were selected based on an arduous audition process. They all worked hard and we are proud of them for this high accomplishment! 🌟
