Briggs Whitley, 8Blue student at MMS, represented MMS at the IESA Boys Sectional F Golf Event on Thursday, September 8th at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Paris, IL.
Leading up to the event, Briggs worked with his father, Chris Whitley (who also served as a volunteer observer at the IESA event) to find his swing. He went into play on Thursday confident, and he finished in the middle of the pack, 33rd out of 58 golfers. Briggs was coached for the day by a former MHS Golf Coach and RES Staff member, Jordan Coleman.
We appreciate Briggs representing Mattoon Middle School as our sole participant this year, and we look forward to following his golf career as he moves on to MHS next year!

Riddle Elementary students have been working hard to create their sculptures for the 2022 Homecoming Parade. Riddle students used their math skills (making to scale and measuring) to create their secret sculptures.
Students eagerly volunteered to be a part of this art class project with Mr. Niemerg, team member of the Riddle Creating Culture Team. Let's Glow win!

On Wednesday (9/7), Ms. Wishard and Mrs. Reynolds 6th grade self-contained, and Mrs. Skees with the DHH program came together to do an egg drop with their students!
The students in these science classes have been working on learning about the scientific method and took a hands-on approach to test out their experiments. Each student designed their own contraption in hopes their egg would not break when dropped from certain heights.
In order to make it interesting, the classes decided to invite the local fire department to bring their ladder truck to drop the eggs. The crew that came from Mattoon Fire Department even joined in on the fun and designed their own contraptions to compete with our students.
The eggs were dropped from different heights, all the way up to 100 ft. off the ladder! The students really enjoyed the experiment, and even Mr. Pugh got to join in on the fun! One fireman and two students' eggs survived the 100 ft. drop.

Now that summer break is over, you’re probably getting back into the school-year routine. It’s a great time to remember the importance of breakfast. Studies show students who eat breakfast are more likely to pay attention in class, have stronger memories, and get better test scores. Get ideas to start their day off right with the link below from our friends at Aramark.

Ashley Armstrong playing her harp in Mrs. Schafer's 2/3 grade class at Williams Elementary.
The class has a behavioral incentive program where students earn "Schafer Bucks". They can buy prizes from a list of options and Ashley selected Show & Tell because she wanted to share her passion for playing the harp! Ashley has taken lessons since she was very young and she is becoming an extremely talented harpist.
Way to go Ashley!
