The following is a message from Superintendent Tim Condron:
Last night, the Charleston School Community extended compassion by dedicating proceeds from the Charleston versus Mattoon boysβ basketball game to the Waterman Family in our district. We are extremely grateful for this act of kindness. We wish this was simply a note of gratitude; however we also feel the need to apologize at this time. Both during and immediately following the game, some Mattoon students made choices that do not reflect our values and expectations.
On behalf of the Mattoon School Community, we extend our sincere apologies for the decisions of some of our students and take responsibility for the inappropriate behavior exhibited. While nothing will undo those actions, we remain committed to rectify this situation.
We understand and appreciate the passion both communities share for athletics. But most importantly, last night was an opportunity to come together as one in support, as well as to cheer on our student athletes. We must take responsibility for our actions, learn from our mistakes, and work to become better to prevent them from happening again. Thank you, Charleston School Community, for your class and support in raising $3,000 for the Waterman family. This grace and kindness is deeply appreciated.
-Superintendent Tim Condron

Riddle Elementary Art students Jansen M. and Maddox L. took an origami concept to the next level by creating an American Flag. The students first learned how to fold paper into individual pieces that would form a paper box. On one of the cold inside recess days, they gathered some paper and successfully achieved their goal of creating an origami flag. We are so proud of their work! πΊπΈ
