Williams Elementary is starting their "One Book, One School" Countdown! They will be revealing a clue every day from now until spring break. The final reveal will be on Friday, April 8.
Students and staff will be receiving the books the first day after spring break on April 19th. Students will be reading chapters throughout the school week culminating with a family night on May 5th.
Any random guesses on what the book might be this year?

Mrs. Muzzy and Mrs. Hettinger recently took this group of fifth graders to Barnes & Noble to buy books for our schools. Each student earned their spot on the bus by reading and passing the quiz of 18 or more Bluestem books this year! It was an amazing accomplishment for all of them and it was great to be able to enjoy a field trip together.

Williams Elementary student Stella Hayes recently donated $100 to her classroom's collection jar to help support the CARE Game at EIU. The CARE Game is held every year to raise funds for local cancer patients. Hayes was inspired to share her very generous donation because she has a family member that has been bravely battling cancer. Hayes shared that she was thinking of a way that she could support other families going through the same situations that might need assistance in paying for their medical treatment. The Mattoon School District has been a strong supporter of the CARE Game for the past several years. The event is organized by the Women's Basketball team at EIU and each classroom in the school has their own CARE Jar that they decorate and use to collect funds raised within their classroom. The CARE Game will be held on Sat. Feb. 12th @ Lantz Arena at 1pm.

On Monday, January 17th it will have been one year since we lost our interpreter, Hannah Mansell, to COVID. The DHH students that Hannah served will deliver baskets on the morning of Jan. 19th to the ER and ICU Departments at Sarah Bush. Our WES class is also making purple butterflies that will be put outside of every classroom door tomorrow to decorate the halls in her memory. Please help us by wearing PURPLE Wednesday, Jan. 19th in memory of Hannah. ๐๐๐
