*WIGs Wednesday Student Takeover*
This is Xayden Enloe. He is a 3rd Grader in Lisa DiNasoโs Class at Williams Elementary. His WIG (Wildly Important Goal) is adding 2 digit numbers. He has worked very hard all year and has mastered this skill! He has done extra daily practice with number lines and hundreds charts to increase his problem-solving skills. When he isnโt tackling 2-digit Math problems, he enjoys camping and playing Lego City on his Nintendo Switch. Xayden is a very responsible student that is also great at being a leader in the classroom. His teachers Mrs. DiNaso and Mrs. Tharp are super proud of him!

Mattoon CUSD #2 bus drivers will be taking part in a mock bus crash training exercise with the Mattoon Fire Department at First Class Wrecker Service in Mattoon. Training is scheduled for April 13, 14, and 15 at 9 AM.
The Fire Department will take two of our oldest buses, flip them on their side, and train drivers as if they are on an actual accident scene. They will make entry into the buses using extraction tools.
Transportation Director Chris Parr believes it will be very beneficial for the District staff and all our First Responders. โIt is a great time to observe, ask questions that come up, and see what they will do when they arrive on the scene, which will help us see what we need to do on our end. Knowing what to expect from all first responders and having those conversations beforehand is huge for all departments involved. Nobody ever wants something like this to happen, but I am excited we get this opportunity to prepare ourselves if it ever does.โ
We would like to extend our gratitude to our First Responders for their willingness to be proactive and prepared in their service to our students and community.

Congrats to Mrs. Dinasoโs class at William's Elementary for receiving the Class of the Month trophy.
They received the award for having the best behavior in the building among classes that needed substitutes recently. The class also organizes and runs the Lost and Found on a daily basis and they are doing an amazing job with this leadership project!

It's National School Librarian Day and National Library Week and our celebration of Mattoon District Librarians continues. Next up, we want to say thank you to Mrs. Hettinger who works at Williams Elementary School.
"I am so fortunate to be a part of the Williams Elementary School family! My favorite part of being the Librarian is that I get to see everyone in the entire building every week. I get to help them find just the book/author that can transport them to magical, far-off places. The best part of my day is when a student finds something new they are excited about. I also love seeing students outside of the school walls and they tell me about a book they are reading. Our One Book One School project has already kicked off with a bulletin board that has clues about this year's selection. Every day we reveal a new clue. The books will be distributed the day we come back from spring break. One book goes to each household, thanks to a grant from the Howell Asphalt Family Foundation. We look forward to this project each year. We will conclude the book with a celebration at our Title One Family Night being held on May 5th this year." - Mrs. Hettinger

Ms. Rona, a Supervisor at Williams Elementary staged herself in the display case outside of the library as an April Fools' joke last week. Needless to say, the kids LOVED it!
