Congrats to the Riddle Art March Contest Winners! The students were challenged last month by adding color and design to a plain top hat. Winners were selected by demonstrating creativity and high quality craftsmanship. Riddle Art Students have been working throughout this school year painting the 2023-24 Cafeteria Mural. The mural is approximately 14 feet long and the theme is patriotic. Every school year, Riddle hosts a Veterans Day celebration inviting local veterans to our school to thank them for their service. At the Veterans day celebration, the honored guests gather in the school cafeteria before the parade. This mural will be a constant reminder of the sacrifices our Veterans have endured to secure our freedom. The students did a great job creating this! 🎨🇺🇸

We are excited to announce that students throughout the district will have the opportunity to view the April 8, 2024 total solar eclipse at their schools. 🌑🌞 Mattoon will experience a partial eclipse of 99.37% beginning at approximately 12:46 p.m. with the time of maximum coverage at approximately 2:04 p.m. 🕑 To help students better understand the science behind a solar eclipse, many teachers will incorporate this into their teaching this week prior to the eclipse. 👩‍🏫 We will be reviewing expectations and safety precautions with students to ensure a fun and memorable experience. Students and staff will be supplied with the ISO 12312-2 International Standard eclipse safe glasses that they will be required to wear during the viewing. 😎 School specific information regarding the event timeline has been emailed to families. Please communicate with your child’s teacher if you wish for your student to opt out of this event. Riddle Kindergarten students recently learned about community helpers which included welcoming special guests from the Mattoon Fire Department, Dr. Myles Hastings, and Denise Porter from the Public Library. We would like to extend our thanks for their visit! 🚒📚🦷

Twenty-six 4th and 5th grade students from Riddle and Wiliams Elementary Schools recently enjoyed a field trip to Barnes and Noble in Champaign to select books for their school libraries. These students worked hard to earn a spot on this coveted trip by been reading Bluestem books. While there, students toured the store, saw the latest published children's books, and picked out books for their fellow readers back in Mattoon. To finish the day, students enjoyed ice cream at Dairy Queen. It was a great day a day of shopping, ice cream, and laughter! 📚🛍️🍦

Riddle art student, Piper Gibson continues to amaze classmates, students, and staff. Piper is a fifth grade student who can create art from any supplies that she has available. This dragon that she made is on canvas board with permanent marker. Keep up the good work Piper!

Riddle Art contest winners for the month of February were chosen and awarded their prizes. Students were given the opportunity to decorate a simple heart shape in a creative way. The winners were from left to right Payton Rappe, Joshua Rabe, Kyleigh Janssen, Emery Anderson, Rowan Linder-Waldhoff, Piper Watkins, and Ellie Carter. Not pictured were Josiah Helmuth and Jaynah Tucker. Fifth grade student leaders Maggie McClain and Piper Watkins announced over the school intercom system the winning student names. Congratulations to our winners!

The Mattoon Girls Softball Association Babe Ruth Clinics are coming up. Email mattoongirlssoftball1@gmail.com for a registration form. Forms must be submitted by April 11. The draft for players will be held in the evening of the clinic. Games are scheduled to start May 13.
